About

Ruth Halbert

I am a visual artist currently living in Denmark, Western Australia. My work is based in traditional European textile hand-making practices and is influenced by local materials and my environment.

I make work to explore the tactile and emotional qualities of cloth including tensions between function and appearance or as surfaces for imagery or text. In our contemporary world of black and white certainties, of boundaries and exclusions, I am driven to reveal shades of grey, of generous ambiguities and inclusion using both the physical and intangible qualities of thread and cloth.
