Dear Prime Minister,
Indefinite detention, as currently imposed on refugees on Manus Island and Nauru is illegal. After 40 months and no evidence of progress to resettle the detainees either on Nauru or in Papua New Guinea or in any other 'third country' Australia must urgently find a solution.
"It can only be a matter of time before the high court finds a case affording it the opportunity to say that detention has the characteristic of being indefinite and thereby unlawful."
Last Friday I rang Minister Dutton's office requesting that he give a proper response to the 4 Corners Program about children on Nauru, on 17.10.16. He has not done so. Will you take action to ensure that Minister Dutton does his job, ends indefinite offshore detention and communicates appropriately to us, Australians and detainees, about what he and his department are doing?
