Blog: Dear Prime Minister

On July 30 2016 I started writing letters to the Prime Minister of Australia to protest against the imprisonment and torture of the asylum seekers in the offshore detention centres of Manus Island and Nauru. I started with the intention of writing a letter a day for every person in detention until they are all freed. There are more than 1800 asylum seekers in off shore detention. These are those letters and any response from Mr Turnbull.

Letters to Tyranny #76

Dear Prime Minister,

If not motivated by the human cost will the $9.6 billion financial cost of offshore detention motivate you to seek an immediate solution? The 76th man on Manus Island, his fellow detainees and the men, women and children on Nauru need immediate resettlement to Australia so that their recovery and rehabilitation can begin. The interim report by UNHCR showed how badly Australia's arbitrary detention has damaged the people who only asked for our help. Will you make public the outcome of the final report and the response of DIBP and Minister Dutton to their meeting with UNHCR representatives on Tuesday 11.10.16?
